Promote excellence in teaching by equipping students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to successfully teach English to speakers of other languages (TESOL); such knowledge and skills include an overview of the structure of English and the concepts, principles and best practices associated with language learning and teaching.
The structure will consist of three 3-credit undergraduate-level courses: English Grammar & Language Teaching, Foundations of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Methods for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (includes practicum).
Opportunities for Growth
Upon program completion, students will have developed knowledge of English grammar, theories of teaching languages and best practices for teaching English as an additional language (EAL). They will also have applied knowledge of English grammar in the teaching and design of lessons for EAL learners, and produced culturally appropriate materials, assessments and lesson plans.
The program will be comprised of 13 weeks of instruction with the equivalent of 100 contact hours and 20 hours of practicum-related activity. Students are required to have a high school diploma and above. Proficiency level: CERF level C1 and above (minimum IELTS 7.0; TOEFL 95).
